How Do I Go From a Legal Separation to a Divorce?
Even though there is no specific rule that states you must file a legal separation before filing for a marital dissolution, there is nothing wrong with doing so, especially if it is done in an attempt to continue the marriage through marriage counseling or whatnot, just with less legal connection in the meantime. However, many couples go straight the divorce, claiming irreconcilable differences, and go their own ways from there.
